Mandurah is situated approximately 72 kilometres (45 mi) south of Perth. It is said to be the state's second most populous city, with a population of approximately 117,000, growing from an isolated holiday community along the shores of the Peel-Harvey Estuary to a major regional city in little more than a decade - in a similar way as the Gold Coast in Queensland. The Mandurah area boasts family friendly beaches such as Doddis, Blue Bay and Mandurah Beach and surf beaches around Wannanup and Dawesville such as Avalon, 4th Groyne, Giri's, Pyramids and The Wedge.
